The Countess of Wessex said she was "ridiculously happy" about the birth of the Prince of Cambridge.
The Countess of Wessex has become the first patron of the London College of Fashion, it was announced today.
Sophie, who has won praise from fashion commentators in recent years for her revamped style, will take on a three year patronage and support the college's Better Lives programme.
Its projects include working with women prisoners to produce a magazine entitled The Beauty's Inside to give the women skills to help with their rehabilitation.
Professor Frances Corner, head of college at London College of Fashion, said: "We are very proud to have the Countess of Wessex's support and look forward to working with her.
"This is a very exciting time for the college and HRH's patronage strengthens the innovative work that we do and the contribution we will continue to make to the future of the fashion industry."
