The Ministry of Defence is investigating after singer Lily Allen reported an online spat with a man claiming to be a serving soldier.
The row started after a Twitter user, who said in his profile he was in the Army, told the singer he had "just seen you bought s*** I meant adopted a child from Africa".
Allen, who is a regular tweeter under her married name @lilyrosecooper, reported the comment to the MoD.
An Army spokesman said: "Racism of any kind is completely unacceptable and the Army has a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of harassment and discrimination."

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 27-year-old singer is said to be 'thrilled' at the prospect of welcoming another baby into their family, months after giving birth to daughter Ethel Mary.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: "Lily has started telling her friends and everybody in her close circle is so excited for her.
"It was a surprise but Lily and Sam are thrilled. The pair of them have loved every minute of parenthood so far and wanted to expand their brood quickly. So it’s great timing."
A spokesperson for Lily refused to comment on the claims.
