A lone bouquet of flowers has been left outside the apartment building where L'Wren Scott was found dead this morning.
A spokesman for L'Wren Scott has confirmed the fashion designer's "tragic death".
He said: "At this devastating time for Ms Scott's family and friends, we request that their privacy be respected.
"There will be no further public statement for the time-being."
Grazia's senior fashion news and features editor Katherine Ormerod told ITV News L'Wren Scott "always injected that Hollywood, A-list glam to proceedings" and the designer "will definitely be missed for that".
Ormerod said Scott was "a stalwart of London Fashion Week" despite her last show at the event being cancelled.
"Her shows were always, almost like a couture environment and it was a different vibe from the rest of what we normally see at fashion week", she added.
Police officers are standing guard outside the New York apartment where designer L'Wren Scott was found dead this morning.
A spokesman said the British Fashion Council was "deeply saddened at the news of L'Wren Scott's tragic death".
"She was an iconic woman who inspired so many, and a designer whose contributions to the fashion industry were both extraordinary and unique", he said.
"She will leave behind an exceptional legacy, however we are so incredibly proud to have had her in our midst. At this sad time our thoughts are with her friends and family."
Fashion designer L'Wren Scott was found dead at a Manhattan apartment "in a possible suicide", the Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement official.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, reportedly said Scott's assistant found her hanged at 10am this morning.
No note was found and there was no sign of foul play, the official added.
