US Secretary of State to meet Karzai in Afghanistan

A day after his surprise visit to Iraq, US Secretary of State John Kerry has flown to Afghanistan for previously unannounced talks with President Hamid Karzai.

A US official said the pair will discuss a host of issues including Afghan reconciliation, the transfer of security responsibility to Afghan forces ahead of a foreign withdrawal and Afghanistan's elections.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai criticised the US over a claimed lack of co-operation with the probe of the alleged killing of 16 Afghans by a soldier.

Karzai said a team sent to investigate Sunday's shootings in south Afghanistan did not receive co-operation expected from US officials.
