Bond's return to the big screen was given the royal seal of approval as the Prince of Wales arrived to meet the stars and makers of 007's latest outing at the Royal Albert Hall.

Charles, accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall, asked for proceeds from the screening to benefit charities that support members of the three intelligence agencies - the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), the Security Service (MI5) and GCHQ.

Critics review new Bond film 'Skyfall'

  • The Telegraph's Robbie Collin: "Skyfall shakes together familiar elements of the Ian Fleming canon - the cars, the guns, the exotic locales with the dames to match - into a blistering comic book escapade that the old Bond, and one suspects Fleming too, would find altogether alien."
  • Guardian's Xan Brooks: "Skyfall allows sentimentality to cloud its judgment and loosen its tongue. In so doing, it risks blowing James Bond's cover for good."
  • The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye: "A fantastic combination of 007 meets Bourne meets Spooks meets Home Alone."

Mendes promises an 'epic' return for Bond

Director Sam Mendes has promised James Bond fans will be treated to an "epic" movie when the long-awaited next instalment finally hits the cinemas later this month.

Mendes told Total Film that "Skyfall" would show 007 as a "three-dimensional" character and hinted it could be one of the longest films in the popular super-spy franchise.

The Oscar-winning director told the magazine, "As the movie progresses, it gets more epic. I loved the scale of it. I think there is a possibility that I put everything I've ever wanted to put in a Bond movie into this movie".

Tomorrow marks "Global James Bond Day", which kicks off with the first ever full airplay of the "Skyfall" theme tune - performed by Adele - at 0:07am.

The "Skyfall" premiere takes place on 23 October at the Royal Albert Hall.

Adele's Bond theme 'leaked'

Adele has confirmed she will sing the theme to the new James Bond film Skyfall.

Bond fans have welcomed Adele's "classic" theme for the latest 007 film after the short clip was released.

Ajay Chowdhury, from the James Bond International Fan Club, said: "It's a beautiful ballad that promises to become a Bondian classic. I can imagine it in the film, underlaid by Daniel Kleinman's titles - Bond fans are in for an aural treat."

Cineworld banking on Bond for end of year boost

Cineworld, the UK's largest cinema operator, is banking on James Bond saving the day following a drop in audience figures through the first half of the year.

Box office admissions fell 0.8% in the 26 weeks to June 28, although a small rise in ticket prices kept revenues up during the period.

But Cineworld said the release of the latest Bond film Skyfall, The Hobbit and the final entry in the Twilight series should bring a strong end of year boost.

Comic-book adventure Avengers Assemble was the top performer during the first half of the year, grossing more than £51 million in the UK.
