Tim Prottey-Jones was eliminated from Superstar tonight, even though he had delivered what Andrew Lloyd Webber described as one of the best performances of the night.
Lord Lloyd-Webber broke with the programme's format when he decided not to pick whether Prottey-Jones or his rival David Hunter should leave until the end of the show, after he had seen them perform again.
Prottey-Jones' stirring rendition of Aerosmith's Dream Onwas unanimously praised by the judges but was not enough to keep him in the competition.
Justifying his decision, Lloyd-Webber said: "I now have to think really what would I be doing as the producer of this show and thinking frankly, professionally, where would I feel most secure. "
He continued: "And it is for that reason that I am going to save David."
Dirk Johnston has been booted off singing show Superstar after ending up in the bottom two for the second night in a row.
Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber chose to save Tim Prottey-Jones after the pair sang Christina Aguilera's ballad Hurt.
The new production of the rock opera goes on tour in September.
