Weather: Mainly cloudy skies but sun pushing through

Britain will look up to mainly cloudy skies for the rest of today, but with spots of sunshine appearing - especially in Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and southwestern England.

Temperatures will also rise a little after yesterday's mild day, with a high of 17C.

Rain across the north leads to some flooding

Pouring rain across northern counties today has led to some flooding in Cumbria and County Durham. Both Carlisle and Durham have received their usual May rainfall amount in just 24 hours.

The rain will continue to be heavy across Northern Ireland for a time - some places here have already collected an inch of water so far today. The rain will gradually ease overnight before dying out altogether to leave a much drier day tomorrow.
