Whitbread, Britain's biggest hotel and coffee shop operator, has reported a strong start to the year, helped by growing demand across its Premier Inn hotels, Costa Coffee and pub restaurant businesses.
The group said sales at outlets open over a year rose 6.9% in the 13 weeks to May 29, with underlying sales at its Premier Inn and Costa divisions up 9.5% and 4.5% respectively.
The overall like-for-like sales growth compares to growth of 4.2% in the 2013-14 financial year.
Whitbread, one of the UK's largest hospitality companies, has found horsemeat in two products - its beef lasagne and burgers.
The products were sold in Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre, Beefeater Grill and Table Table.
Business is booming for Costa Coffee, with the High Street chain recording a like-for-like sales increase of 7.1% and a total sales increase of 25.5% in the third quarter.
The expanding Costa brand helped boost its owner Whitbread, Britain's biggest hotel and coffee shop operator, into posting a 3.3% rise in the three months to November 29.
