A teenager has been arrested after Sports Direct signs were torn down, in and around St James’ Park last week.
It happened during, and after Newcastle United’s reserve match with Sunderland last Thursday. Signs inside the ground and at nearby shop on Blackett Bridge were targeted.
A 16-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage on Saturday, and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Bentham, from Northumbria Police, said:
“If anyone recognises the people who have carried out these criminal acts, they are asked to contact police in the strictest of confidence so we can take the appropriate action.”
Police are continuing to examine CCTV footage and images which have been circulating on social media networks.
