A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 50-year-old woman was discovered in Whitby. Julie Davison was found dead in her flat in Church Square yesterday. Julie, who lived alone and had one son, was found by her sister and had head injuries.

In particular, officers want to speak to a man with a mountain bike. He was seen in the square outside of the flats early yesterday morning. He is described as white, around 5ft 9in to 6 ft tall. Aged in his late 20s to 40s and of slim build.

Police have extra patrols working in the area to reassure residents. One local spoke of his shock earlier.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses.
