Thousands of people took the opportunity to go on board the Royal Navy's biggest warship HMS Ocean on an open day during her four day visit to Sunderland.
The 20,000 tonne vessel has a crew of 370 and the nickname "The Mighty O". During her stay on Wearside the crew marched through Sunderland to exercise their Freedom of the City. Then they opened up their vessel to the general public. In the first half hour of opening her doors almost a thousand people went on board.
