Five thousand Coldplay fans were reliant on extra bus services to take them home from a concert last night because of strike action by train drivers on the Tyne and Wear Metro. The strikes coincided with the gig at Sunderland's Stadium of Light following a dispute over pay between unions and bosses.

There was some criticism by concert goers of the contingency services, but the Metro operator DB Tyne and Wear said everything went as well as could be expected given the circumstances.
