The Blaydon Races was given the unusual honour of a blessing at St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle to mark its 150th anniversary. The song, originally about a horse race, has become a Geordie anthem.

On Saturday, the tune was performed in some unusual places around the city, before the road run it inspired took place. The full lyrics of the song are on the event website.
