For ten years, the Cave in South Shields has been a space for teenagers to practise music, dance and drama.

It had looked like another victim of the recession - an arts centre for young people, doomed to close because the council couldn't afford to run it any more. But when the cuts threatened to bite, the community rallied round to save it.
