Double Olympic Gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes has launched a new sports programme in the North East.
From September, more than 300 students will take part in the scheme at Gateshead College. The course, which is being delivered by Kelly Holmes Education, is aimed at helping youngsters have a successful future in sport.
Since her Olympic success in Athens, Dame Kelly has developed a range of mentoring programmes across the country. The scheme in Gateshead is the first one to have been launched in the North East.
Dame Kelly Holmes said: "They already have fantastic coaches here on the sports team, but we're not teachers. So hopefully what we will do is come in from a different angle, and actually motive and inspire the young people to be the best they can be.
"The programme consists of numerous modules. Anything from self massage techniques, anti-doping. Lots of different things, and it's run by professionals in their field who have worked internationally or with international sports people, and also athletes themselves - like myself - that like to give back."
As well as an inspirational talk, prospective students were also given a taster of what it's like to be an athlete in one of Dame Kelly's coaching sessions.
Student Laura McMullen said: "It's been really good having a double Olympic champion here this close to the Olympics. It sounds like it's going to bring a lot of good athletes to the college."
Another Gateshead College student, Cameron Oliver said: "It was a great honour really. Obviously she's trained at the highest level at every level. So we know we're getting the top coaching, and top ability, and top equipment that we can to try and reach our dreams like she did."
Tracy Ashcroft, Head of Group at Gateshead College, said: "We are very much passionate about sport here at Gateshead College. We want to be at the forefront of sport education, not just regionally, but we also have international ambitions as well.
"The benefits that our students get from working with Kelly and her team will be exceptional."
