People in Hartlepool will have to decide if they still want an elected mayor. A referendum will be held in the autumn for people in the town to have their say.

Ten years ago, Stuart Drummond was elected. At the time he was Hartlepool United's monkey mascot, and gained the novelty vote. But since then he's managed to be re-elected twice, as a serious candidate.

It was decided by council that the referendum will take place on Thursday 15 November.

The ballot paper will ask:

**

***How would you like Hartlepool Council to be run?*

By a mayor who is elected by voters. This is how the council is run now. _*Or *By one or more committees made up of elected councillors. This would be a change from how the council is run now. __
