A new video installation on Tyneside shows what Mars may look like in 200 years time.
Artist Kelly Richardson's video is a detailed construction of the surface of Mars in a couple of centuries when it is littered with barely functioning spacecraft and consumed by dust storms.
The exhibition - Mariner 9 - has opened in the Spanish City Dome in Whitley Bay.
It coincides with the landing of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory, Curiosity, on the Red Planet. Richardson uses NASA imagery and Hollywood scenery generation software to create her apocalyptic vision.
