The recent heavy rain has caused problems not just on our roads but in our rivers as well. The extra water has washed large amounts of timber and debris into rivers and onto riverbanks.
Special clearance boats on the River Tyne have been working to keep the channels free of obstructions and safe for shipping. In the last few weeks the vessel Clearwater has removed 50 tonnes of timber.
