How can we make the Olympic legacy last?

Now the Olympics closing ceremony is over and our region's athletes are coming home, thoughts are turning to how the North East can make the Olympic legacy last.

At Stepney Bank stables in Newcastle, the number of people wanting to take up dressage is already up, following the success of double gold-medallist Charlotte Dujardin - just one example of how Olympics fever is taking root.

The real test though is whether levels of participation in sport will still be higher once the hype around London 2012 has faded - and whether that will translate into medals at future Games.

Our sports correspondent Simon O'Rourke told presenters Pam Royle and Ian Payne that the Olympics have given young people new sporting role models - but it is giving them a route to the elite level of their sport that really matters.
