Princess Royal opens Northumberlandia

A figure of a woman carved into the landscape near Cramlington was officially opened by the Princess Royal. Northumberlandia took ten years to become reality and cost £3m.

She is:

  • Quarter of a mile long
  • 100 feet high
  • Made of 1.5m tonnes of rock and clay

The sculpture is estimated to bring in an extra 200,000 visitors a year, which would mean an extra £1m spent in local businesses.

So far she is only open to the public at designated times.

The next opening dates are:

  • Wednesday, September 5, 12pm - 4pm
  • Saturday, September 8, 12pm - 4pm
