Consortium bids for £1bn of Government funding to build carbon capture and storage site on Teesside

A Teesside consortium is hoping to be amongst the first in the country to lead the way in carbon capture and storage.

Leaders of Teesside Low Carbon are campaigning to win a £1 billion Government contract to pipe industrial carbon dioxide into long term storage. If the group are successful, the site would be based at Wilton in Redcar, creating more than 250 jobs.

However, green campaigners say the scheme is not the answer to the country's industrial emissions problem.
