House prices in the North have fallen for the third month in a row and have seen the steepest drop.
The average price for a house in the North is now £144,795. down 2.3%.
Nationally, house prices fell for a third month in a row, with researchers from Rightmove saying people staying at home to watch the Olympics as one of the reasons.
Miles Shipside, housing market analyst at Rightmove, said: "Summer sellers have had some very stiff competition, not only from competing sellers chopping their prices but also from the Olympic extravaganza which has been more compelling from many that viewing property."
Prices rose marginally year-on-year in September, up 0.7%, but are almost unchanged compared with five years ago.
