Police have raided nine houses across Newcastle and North Tyneside in an operation tackling drug dealing and organised crime.
Nine people were arrested in the raids early this morning. Eight men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs.
A tenth arrest - of a 33-year-old man - was made later. All ten remain in custody.
The raids were part of a long running investigation into organised crime and drug dealing in Walker and Longbenton. Between £1.5 million and £1.75 million worth of drugs – mainly cocaine and amphetamine - were seized in the lead up to the raids.

Drugs have a devastating impact both on individuals involved in use and supply and the neighbourhoods where they live, through related crime and disorder. We know people in Walker have raised concerns through our regular surveys about drug use and supply in their community. People living in the east of the city and beyond can be reassured they live in a safe area which has seen year on year reductions in crime and disorder.
