Sunderland player at centre of international racism row
A Sunderland footballer is at the centre of an international racism row after the England Under-21s Euro 2013 qualifier match against Serbia ended in violence.
Defender Danny Rose was sent off after the final whistle last night (October 16) for reacting angrily to racial abuse.
Serbia is facing UEFA sanctions after England complained its Under-21 players were subjected to racial and physical abuse at the end of the European Championship play-off second leg.
Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle has backed calls for Serbia to receive a "significant" international ban after the "utterly deplorable" scenes in Krusevac, Serbia last night.
England Under-21 manager Pearce, Stuart Pearce, has criticised the events at the game last night, saying it has overshadowed his Under-21 side's 1-0 win.
The match was called off because of a waterlogged pitch but has been rearranged for 4pm.
