Pardew praises West Brom boss Steve Clarke

Competition: Premier League

Venue: St James' Park

Kick-off: Sun 28 Oct, 3pm

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has praised West Brom manager Steve Clarke ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at St James' Park.

The Baggies have been arguably one of the in-form teams this season, and are currently sixth in the table following an impressive series of results - including a 3-0 opening day win over Liverpool.

Pardew said although West Brom have surpassed expectation so far, the successful appointment of Clarke comes as no shock: "Well I don't think Steve Clarke's a surprise. It isn't a surprise to us. He's a good friend of John [Carver], his assistant's Kevin Keen, who worked with me at West Ham.

"West Brom are probably the surprise team of the season so far. So it's a tough game."

Newcastle will recall a number of senior players who were rested in the Europa League win over Club Brugge. Demba Ba, Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul are all expected to start.

However, Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote will serve the first of a three-match domestic ban after his sending off against Sunderland last weekend.
