Fire crews had one of their busiest evenings of the year last night as people celebrated bonfire night (November 5th).
Many call-outs were to tackle illegal bonfires, which the fire service had already been cracking down on in the weeks leading up the celebrations.
Illegal bonfires are those that are unattended, unsupervised, and take place on public land.
Firefighters were called to deal with numerous bonfires that had got out of hand, and they also had to deal with abuse as well as the blaze - with some people throwing fireworks at crews.
Derek Smith from Tyne and Wear Rescue says that it's all part of the job.
