NUFC prepare for final Europa game

Newcastle United are in no mood to take things easy as they prepare for their final game of the Europa League Group stages.

The Magpies flew to France today (Wednesday) ahead of tomorrow night's match in Bordeaux.

Both teams involved in the showdown at the Stade Chaban-Delmas have already qualified for the next stage of the competition, but both are keen to secure top spot in Group D, as that would be likely to result in a more favourable draw at the start of the knock-out phase.

Bordeaux currently top the group, so a draw will be good enough for them. Newcastle need to win the match to overtake the French side.

Both teams will rotate their squads for the match, and Alan Pardew has already stated he won't risk any players carrying an injury. But the Newcastle Boss made his intentions clear when he briefed his squad ahead of the game.

"It's still a massive game. We're second in the group and the manager's stated that obviously apart from the injuries and suspensions and we know how important the league is, but it's still a cup competition that we want to win and we're going there to Bordeaux and we want to win the game and we want to finish top of the group and he's made that clear."

– Danny Simpson, Newcastle United

Steve Harper, Newcastle's experienced back-up goalkeeper also got the message, commenting:

"Well it's the next game. It's an old cliche. We get a better draw if we win the group so that's what we're going there to do you know.

The manager will send the best team he possibly can.

Obviously the league is the priority. But we're going to send a strong side over there."

Thursday Night's match kicks off at 6pm in South-Western France. The Magpies next premier league game is at Fulham next Monday Night.
