Newcastle United have completed the signing of defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on a five-and-a-half year deal.
The France international has joined from Ligue 1 side Montpellier for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £7 million.
The 23-year-old told the club's official website:
– Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Newcastle United
It's an honour to be able to come to Newcastle United and have the chance to play in the Premier League.
"Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs in the league, and I'm going to try and give everything I have so that the team can do well.
Yanga-Mbiwa, who will wear the number 13 shirt, could be the first of three new signings at St James' Park over the coming days. It's understood that both Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran and Nancy defender Massaido Haidara are close to completing moves to Tyneside.
