Hedgehogs at risk

The common site of a hedgehog in your garden might become anything but common if the decline in numbers continues at the current rate.

The recent bad weather in our region has added to the problems.

Mild weather over Christmas made some wake up early – but then we had the big freeze.

Also the ground is saturated so alot of hibernating hedgehogs have been flooded out of their nests.

At Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue it's their busiest year ever.

Currently there are 120 hedgehogs to be cared for.

For Carole and her team of volunteers - that’s a lot of mouths to feed.
