A new wind turbine is proposed for the Vale of Whittingham in Northumberland - the first one planned for that area north of Rothbury.

Local residents meet this evening at Whittingham Memorial Hall to discuss the plans. Opponents say it will open the floodgates for more turbines in an area of high landscape value next to Northumberland National Park.

But a report drawn up for the applicant - Ogden Renewable Energy Centre in York - says the features of interest within the landscape which contribute most significantly to its character would remain unaffected.
