Regional Dance Competition in the North East

Over a hundred dancers from across the north of England gathered in the North East on Sunday to take part in the 73rd NCDTA Competion ( Northern Counties Dance Teachers Association).

The dancers of all ages competed in a number of classes from Ballroom to Latin.

Supported by hundreds of spectators the competitors took to the floor, at the Rainton Meadows Acadamy in Hetton-Le-Hole, on Sunday morning.

One of the top prizes was won by Georgia Wilkins from Newcastle and Leoni Maltby from North Yorkshire. They came first in the Open Junior Classical Sequence Championship.

They preformed a number of dances for the judges, including the Jive and the Quick Step, before taking the top spot.

"This is a great competition that gives dancers of all ages and abilities to take part. The standard is very high. We've got dancers from Manchester, Lincoln and Southport here today and of course Newcastle."
