Hartlepool United have appointed Colin Cooper as the club's new First Team Manager - with Craig Hignett as his assistant.
The 46-year-old, from Durham, replaces John Hughes who was sacked on May 9th after the club were relegated to League Two.
Cooper made over 600 appearances for Middlesbrough, Millwall, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland as a player. He became Assistant Manager at the Riverside under Gareth Southgate in 2009 before brief spells as caretaker manager at Boro and Bradford City.
The former defender has most recently been involved with Middlesbrough's academy but will start work at Victoria Park immediately, with former Boro midfielder Hignett becoming Assistant/Reserve Team Manager.
Hignett, 43, spent six years at Middlesbrough before having a brief stint with Hartlepool at the end of his playing career.
