Sunderland University is getting a piece of broadcasting history as it installs an iconic Blue Peter set in its media school.
The set – which was left behind in Television Centre in London when Blue Peter relocated to Media City in Salford – will now be used by media production students at the university.
The set was was one of the pieces of Television Centre memorabilia auctioned off and it will be installed at the St Peters riverside campus in September.
Schools and local production companies are also being invited to visit the set once it is in place.
– Jason Legget, head of media production at Sunderland University
“Our students are already working with industry professionals and high-end production equipment.
"The ability to develop ideas and formats using this brilliant set as a backdrop in our main studio is an exciting prospect for students.”
– Graeme Thompson,
“I am delighted we’re able to house such a distinctive and flexible set. It will create a unique and attractive production space for our students.
"We already get a lot of visitors to our media centre because of our investment in media and our strong links with producers and broadcasters.
"I predict the arrival of the Blue Peter set will attract even more visits.”
