Double world and Olympic champion Mo Farah has been announced as the honorary starter of the Bupa Great North 5k.
The run is being held on the NewcastleGateshead Quayside on the morning of Saturday 14 September and will feature approximately 1,500 runners of all abilities - from first-timers to former Great North runners.

"I might not have to high five as many people as I did when I helped start the Bupa Great North Run the last two years, but it will be great fun to offer runners encouragement and support at the event"
Farah, will make his Bupa Great North Run debut on the following day, running against Ethiopian stars Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele.
