Cat owners in a County Durham village say they are living in fear for their pets after several animals were shot with an air rifle, leaving some dead and others injured.
The attacks, in the usually quiet village of Edmundbyers near Consett, now run into double figures, according to locals and are being investigated by the police
The Kerr family's cat, Badger, died after being shot in the head. Another of their cats is missing and a third returned home injured,
Caron Kerr, who has rescued several animals over the years, says her children are devastated.
Mrs Kerr is so concerned, she has stopped her daughter from riding her pony through the streets for fear they may become a target.
