Windy into Monday. Improving from midweek

MONDAY: Low pressure brings strong winds & some heavy showers Photo:

An unsettled start to the week as low pressure continues to be in charge, with strong winds and heavy showers moving through the region. From midweek conditions do look like calming down with winds becoming lighter, more sunshine on offer and fewer showers.

Sunday night:

Rain clearing but staying windy with showers, these heavy, perhaps with hail and thunder.

Fewer showers later in the night with many parts becoming dry with clear spells by dawn.

Less cold than saturday night, most parts frost free. 5 °C.

A very windy day with gales on coasts and over hills with gusts 50-60mph possible.

Good sunny spells will start the day, with just a few showers over the Pennines during the morning.

Further heavy, squally showers (with a risk of hail and thunder) will move through later.

Less cold highs 8-6°C

Tuesday - staying windy with sunny spells and heavy, squally showers. Highs 8°C

Wednesday and Thursday - lighter winds with fewer showers. Longer bright or sunny spells in between. Highs 7°C

Frost free nights to start the week but a higher risk of colder air Wednesday night onwards as the weather improves.
