A Newcastle man is hoping his Russian summerhouse will win a competition to find the best "shed" in the country.

John Hardisty built the "shed" himself in his garden in Benton. He's interested in stained glass and made all of the windows himself, as well as a mosaic-tiled roof on the inside. John is one of 2,000 entrants in the competition.

Research has shown that the average shed owner spends almost a year of their life in their shed. Seven sheds in every hundred have a TV, five in a hundred have a sofa and two in every hundred even have a hot tub.
