The UK has a new offshore wind farm operating off the Teesside coast about a mile from Redcar.
There is already a wind generation site off the Northumberland coast at Blyth but the Teesside operation is being billed as the North East's first large scale offshore wind farm.
The farm consists of 27 turbines with a generation capacity of 62MW of low carbon electricity - enough to supply the average annual needs of 40,000 homes.
The operations and maintenance team for the wind farm will be based in a new centre that is currently under construction at the Port of Hartlepool.
It is owned by EDF Energy Renewables also operates a number of onshore wind farms in County Durham and Northumberland.
