After more than a decade, Redcar once again has a public swimming pool, as the town's new £31 million leisure and civic centre opens this weekend (26 April).
It includes a pool area, complete with a wave simulating machine, as well as a huge gym and sports hall and fitness studios, which will also be used by local groups. The facility replaces the Redcar Bowl.
The complex, on Ridley Street, houses the council chamber and registry office, as well as office space available for local businesses.
It'll be known as Redcar & Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart and it marks the completion of a £75 million scheme to revive the town, which includes work along the seafront and the new Redcar Beacon.
Gerry Brough, the council's director of regeneration services, says the facility should benefit the whole area.
