Sunderland AFC celebrated its ties with the African continent at the Stadium of Light, hosting delegations from both South Africa and Tanzania.

The Black Cats have forged links with Africa in recent seasons and held a special Tanzania Day at the stadium as the Black Cats welcomed Chelsea FC.

A delegation from Tanzania Tourist Board, including His Excellency Peter Kallaghe, High Commissioner for Tanzania in the UK, attended the game. The club’s first team warmed up in 'Visit Tanzania' t-shirts to promote tourism in Tanzania.

“I would like to thank Sunderland for meeting with me, the presentation from the club was excellent and their project in Africa is showing a lot of potential. I look forward to working with club on future activities.”

“Sunderland AFC is hugely proud of its partnerships in Africa and today was dedicated to our growing relationship with the nation of Tanzania and to welcome the delegation from South Africa.

“Tanzania Day represented the club’s commitment to helping to promote tourism in Tanzania and it was an honour to host so many of our friends from across Africa. We look forward to further building on our relationship with the African continent.”
