The first British-made washing machines in decades rolled off the production line today in County Durham.
The machines are being built at Ebac in Newton Aycliffe and the line was developed using both government and company money. The line received a £1m Regional Growth Fund grant from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills and a £6m injection from the company’s own funds.
The machines will be available to buy initially at selected independent retailers in the North East & Cumbria from October.
The company's chairman John Elliott says production is starting slowly but will ramp up over the next few years.
