Suspected stolen car crashes into two houses in Middlesbrough following police pursuit.

A police investigated is underway after a car crashed into two houses on Ayresome Green Lane in Middlesbrough.

It happened at around 1:30am on Wednesday 16 August.

An on-duty police officer in a patrol vehicle spotted the briefly before the crash and attempted to follow the vehicle with lights and sirens on.

As part of understanding the circumstances that led to the crash, this element of the incident is being looked at by senior officers.

The matter has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Two men in the black Mercedes, which crashed into the houses, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

They were cut out of the car by the Fire Brigade.

They attended hospital however have since been released.

The front of the properties are badly damaged but no-one was injured.

Three people have been forced to sought alternative accommodation as a result of the damage.

A 29-year-old man and 26-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.
