'Major work' needed on mental health hospital on Teesside

Major building work is needed on a mental health hospital on Teesside.

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust has announced that "significant work" is required to fix a number of construction defects at Roseberry Park in Middlesbrough, including problems with the hospital’s fire safety system.

Three Valleys Healthcare Ltd, the PFI contractors who have responsibility for the hospital, identified the fire safety issues last June. Working with Cleveland Fire Brigade, we took immediate action to mitigate the risks and to address the safety of service users, staff and visitors whilst they’re in Roseberry Park. However, these are not long term solutions.

Since then we’ve been working with Three Valleys Healthcare, fire safety and other construction experts to try to establish what is needed to resolve the problems and the most effective way of doing so.

The Trust insists the safety of patients, staff and visitors is their upmost priority.

The works needed will mean the temporary moving of some services, which will be announced at a later date.

The Trust hopes to have work underway by January 2018.
