McKinlay and Stockdale take charge at Sunderland

Sunderland Football Club has revealed their short-term management plans while they continue to search for a successor to Simon Grayson.

Grayson was sacked on Tuesday evening following a 3-3 draw with Bolton.

Robbie Stockdale and Billy McKinlay have been named as joint caretaker managers for Sunderland's upcoming Tees-Wear derby match against Middlesbrough.

The pair both worked under Simon Grayson as part of his coaching staff.

In a statement, the club says a further announcement on the vacant manager's position will follow in due course.

Sunderland AFC have placed Billy McKinlay and Robbie Stockdale as joint caretaker managers ahead of this weekend’s Tees-Wear derby.

The pair take temporary charge after Simon Grayson parted company with the Black Cats following last night’s draw with Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light.

A further announcement regarding the vacant manager’s position will be made in due course."
