Sunderland boss gets behind injured Watmore

New Sunderland boss Chris Coleman says everyone at the club will support Duncan Watmore after his recurring injury nightmare was confirmed.

The 23-year-old has had knee surgery and is facing another long-term lay off.

The winger had only recently returned from nearly a year out of the game with a cruciate ligament injury.

It's feared he's now suffered the same injury, to the same knee. But his new manager insists he can bounce back from his problems.

Forget me, forget us, it's for him you know? He's a young man. He's got a real good career in front of him. He's a real good guy, loves his football and he's going to be absolutely devastated.

"So we've just got to take care of him as much as we can and we will do, and we'll get him back. However long it takes he'll be back, I'm sure of that."

Championship side Sunderland haven't won a game this season and have lost half of all of their games, making successive relegations a real possibility.

The Black Cats went down 2-1 to Aston Villa this week, in their first game under new manager Chris Coleman.

They remain fixed at the bottom of the table.
