Two men have been arrested after jewellery was stolen from a 92-year-old woman.

The jewellery was stolen during a burglary at an address in Ashford Drive, Sacriston in the early hours of this morning.

Some of the stolen items had been given to the woman by her late husband.

Officers from Chester-Le-Street Neighbourhood Police Team and Chester-le-Street CID have this afternoon arrested two men from the Sacriston area on suspicion of burglary.

The two males, aged 37 and 32, are in police custody and are being interviewed about the offence.

Although two males are currently in police custody in relation to this shocking crime against a vulnerable elderly lady, I would still encourage anyone with information to contact police on 101.

If you have been offered any jewellery for sale today, or know of someone who has, then please get in touch.

The jewellery is old and is of significant sentimental value.
