Roadworks due to begin on a stretch of the A1 in Northumberland next week are being rescheduled.
At a public meeting in Belford this morning, Highways England announced that resurfacing work on a four mile stretch between Wandylaw and Warenford would NOT be starting on Friday 2, March as originally planned.
The A1 was expected to be closed for around three weeks while the work was carried out.
Northumberland County Council had objected to the plans, as well as a number of local residents and businesses, over concerns about the disruption and lack of communication from Highways England.
Highways England have not said when the resurfacing work is likely to take place in the future, but have made it clear that the work will still need to be completed.
