County Durham X Factor star Sam Lavery was leaving Norwich and heading to Cardiff when she spoke to Rachel Sweeney about touring and making her mark on the music industry.

The teenage singer is coming to the end of touring the UK with M People vocalist Heather Small. Sam was overwhelmed to say the least when she took on the tour, and now that it's coming to an end, she can't believe the relationship she's developed with the superstar.

She's just been so nice, the whole band has. I have loved watching her and constantly learning from her. Heather has taken the time to watch my sound-checks. I couldn't believe my ears when I walked by her dressing room and I heard her singing one of my songs. I froze to the spot. It was such a moment for me. The only thing that tops that was when she came out on stage and sang with me one time. It was just... wow!

It's not over yet, because Sam will be working with Heather again as part of the South Tyneside Festival. She'll perform at Bents Park in South Shields alongside Lemar and Atomic Kitten on 29 July.

It's so amazing. Touring with Heather has been incredible, great venues and loud crowds. I didn't want it to end but Bents Park is definitely something to look forward to. Heather is performing and I will get to see her again. She was keen for us to work together again and that is just fantastic. It has been very easy working together.

Sam Lavery has put The X Factor behind her and plans to push forward in making her mark in the music industry. Sam's new single For The Night follows Walk Away and Beat of You. Sam says she's passionate about this track, she feels it's a great reflection of where she is musically. The songstress can't wait to sing it for the crowd in South Shields.

I just can't believe I'm going to be on that stage. I have been to the South Tyneside Festival every year. It's such a famous gig in the North East. I will be on that stage singing For The Night with everything I have. The audience is always really loud. We'll hopefully have hot weather, it's outside, everyone will be in good cheer. I just can't wait.
