Hundreds of Newcastle fans line Northumberland street in protest of Mike Ashley's running of the club

Hundreds of Newcastle United fans lined Northumberland Street to protest against the club's owner Mike Ashley.

The action was planned by The Magpie Group, an alliance of Newcastle United supporter groups and organisations.

The protest took place outside of the Sports Direct store.

Fans who took part say they’re angry at a lack of investment in players and say the club has been ‘neglected’ under Mike Ashley's ownership.

It was announced earlier this weekend that Mike Ashley has bought retail giant House of Fraser for a £90 million. Forcing fans to question whether that is the reason behind a lack of funds made available to buy new players during the transfer window.
