A new dredger on the River Tyne has been named the Sir Bobby Robson. Sir Bobby's widow Lady Elsie carried out the naming ceremony in South Shields. The £1m vessel will help keep the bed of the river clear and make sure that the biggest cargo ships in the world can continue to use the port.
Over 60 guests will gather at the Port of Tyne today to see Lady Robson officially name and launch a new workboat the 'Sir Bobby Robson'. The £1.1 million, 16 metre boat is designed to level and clear the riverbed to keep the Port navigable.
The Port of Tyne will also announce a programme of funding for sport and young people by supporting a number of football foundations and making a donation to north east cancer charity the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
